We woke up early Monday morning from a phone call from one of Trent's seminary teachers telling him that our ward building was going to be used as an evacuation center for the people who were being evacuated due to the fires.
I did notice Sunday night that the sky was looking a little different but I didn't think about going to find out why so we just went to bed. So that day I was getting myself prepared. I updated our 72hr kits and made sure I knew what I wanted to take just in case we were to be evacuated.
On Tuesday morning we were asked to make donations to give to the people at the Stake Center so my mother-in-law (Kelly) and I went to Sam's club and picked up water, diapers, wipes, snack foods, blankets, etc. Kelly got the idea to make a sign to put outside our ward building facing the street to give others an opportunity to donate. We made the sign and we got an overwhelming response and were able to take alot of supplies to the stake center for others.
I felt like I could do more but other people stepped up faster than I did and we were all wanting to serve but at our stake center they could only handle so many volunteers so I wasn't able to.
It was quite the week for our community but to actually see people in action wanting to help made all the difference and there will continue to be opportunities for us to serve in the clean-up of burned down homes.
