Visiting Teaching

I have gained a greater testimony about the importance of visiting teaching this last month. In years past I have been diligent and continue to do so but this go round is different for me. I have 3 wonderful sisters which whom I have stewardship over and I couldn't be more grateful.

The first sister is a long time resident of Carlsbad who has a wealth of knowledge and history about this wonderful place that I live in. I have really enjoyed getting to know her family as she speaks of her and her 9 children. I have asked her about her writing down all these stories she shares with me and she says that she hasn't yet. Oh boy! I encouraged her to start right away. She has a great memory but we never know what could happen and those memories will be lost. Its easier said then done though. Each time I go to see her it just reconfirms to me about the importance of writing memories down because we never know what life will bring to us.

The second sister whom I have gotten to know really well is one who has a great love for serving others and making sure those around her are loved. She is always asking me if she could do something for me. I have to tell her that that is the line I am supposed to use not her. But then she reminds me that we all need to be served somehow. She has come from a hard place and has children who tend to give her some hardache. It was in one of these hard times was when I met her and her family. It was around christmas time and I just needed to serve someone because I was feeling a little selfish and I went to go see her for the first time. I could tell she had the light of Christ in her and she was trying to come back to church and find a connection to her Savior again. I have really enjoyed watching her blossom over the last few months and I have personally witnessed blessings coming into her life. She is a strong woman who is very patient and loving and is willing to sacrifice now to have the life she has always wanted. Truly an inspiration in my opinion.

The last sister is one who we have alot in common and its fun to ask eachother what eachother is doing here or there. She too has been in Carlsbad all her life and knows alot of great finds and places to see. The one thing I admire about her is her persistance and strength. She has had some health problems and has the faith to move mountains! Another sister that inspires and uplifts me. She too has had things to overcome in her life but she always brings the Savior into the picture first to help her.

I feel that the visiting teaching program of our church is inspiring to help other sisters connect with those that may not be in our circle of influence but learn that no matter who we are we are all in this together and that we truly are children of God and brothers and sisters. I have learned an abundance of gospel knowledge on these visits from all types of sisters with all different personalities. Each one has blessed me in some way and all I do is just do my visit each month and be sure to talk with them at church and just "BE THERE" whenever they need a friend.
